welcome JV Bhat Memorial Oration
Prof. Janaradhan Venkatesh Bhat (1913-1985), a renowned microbiologist of international repute, served Kasturba Medical College and Academy of General Education, Manipal from 1973-1980 with distinction. In order to honor and perpetuate the memory of Professor J.V. Bhat, a doyen of microbiology in India, an endowment was created in the name of Late Prof. J.V. Bhat at Manipal University. Every year, School of Life Sciences organizes a lecture on his birthday on 3rd March and the J.V. Bhat Memorial Oration is awarded to an eminent scientist of the country in the field of Life Sciences and is invited to deliver a lecture. The endowment was created at Manipal with the support of Prof. J.V. Bhat’s associates, well-wishers, students and Manipal University who came forward in instituting this endowment. This effort was initiated by Prof. P.M. Gopinath, Senior Scientist at School of Life Sciences, Manipal Academy of Higher Education.
The following are the eligibility criteria for selection of the Awardees:
1. A Microbiologist of repute
2. Should have carried out extensive research work in the area of Microbiology and
3. Preferably a student of Prof. J.V. Bhat.
